The amazing waterways at Lake Entrance, East Gippsland

A long weekend in Melbourne calls for a soul-searching trip, hence we decided to venture the amazing Coastal town of Esat Gippsland, The Lake Entrance.

The destination (Lakes Entrance) is well known for its vast system of waterways and inland lands that is a feast for a travellers eyes.

Destination Review |Lake Entrance

#Lakes Entrance

Lake Entrance has been a popular destination, as its located at the edge of the ninety-mile beach, perched 4 hours drive away from Melbourne. The Gippsland lakes that’s scattered across this town makes it an adventurous location for family and children.

This Coastal town has some amazing different things to offer than the other Victorian countryside.

We headed straight to Paynesville, Esplanade to catch a ferry to the Raymond island. If you ahve booked your accommodation at the Lakes Entrance, do note that this place is a long 45 mins drive from the Lakes Entrance city centre.

#Paynesville

Paynesville, is a famous boating destination, surrounded by the lakes all the side. It overlooks the beautiful waterways, surrounded by the gorgeous waterfront cafes, jetties and the Fishermans Wharf.

#Raymond Island

Where koalas greet you good morning and the kangaroos hip around at your poach. Yes, such place does exist, Raymond island is one such island that’s isolated from the civilised mainland, Paynesville.

Take a ferry to the Raymond Island (Lakes Entrance), you can choose to walk or decide to take your car along the ferry.

It costs $6 return to the Raymond Island, do grab the island map while boarding. The best part of the Raymond island ferry is that you don’t have to get off your car.

The sunset at the Raymond island is worth the watch.

The Koala is a must do walk at the Raymond Island, so make sure to get up and close to the Koala family. The last ferry departs at 12 am at night, so even if you reach this place by late evening, you have still plenty of time to explore the island.

We got there early and the koalas were actively climbing up and down, but by the time we finished they were drunk on their eucalyptus leaves and were very docile.

#Lake Bunga

The gorgeous waterways at the Lakes Entrance end up to the Golden beaches, one such Lake is Lake Bunga.

If you are adventurous like me then probably you would love driving a bit away from the main town of Lakes Entrance, where I halted for a  night.

The beach is not patrolled, however, its a perfect and secluded place for couples and families with kids. The Lake Bunga isn’t an ideal place to take a dip but perfect to unwind over a barbeque.

So, when your planning the next long weekend Gateway make sure to include Lakes Entrance as one of the destinations.
