My Cradle Mountain Adventures |Self Driven itinerary

Its the soaring skies meet the rugged mountain ranges and the valley descend to the sea.

Where behind every wooden door or at every turn you will find something to feast your eyes, lips and ears.

My Tassie tales began with the Cradle Mountain (in the Cradle Country), heard a lot about this Iconic place so here it is how I planned my Self Driven Itinerary to the Cradle Mountain.

Hit the roads from Launceston and take the Highway 1 which will lead you to the Cradle Mountain Highway. We began early as travelling with kids can be quite a hassle if you don’t start early.

Our first stop was at the Rasberry Farm Cafe for a much needed Caffeineaffine Fix, the stopover at this picturesque cafe is recommended for their Christmas Hills Rasberry Chocolates and their amazing Coffee.

The drive to the Cradle Mountain Information centre will take you approximately 2 hours if you take 2 breaks in between.

You will drive through beautiful towns like Sheffield (also known as a Mural Town), Moles Creek (Famous for its Solomon and Moles Creek CAVES ) and La Trobe.

I highly recommend, you to drive straight to the Cradle Mountain Information centre, as we did the same. Park your vehicle and purchase the Cradle Mountain Shuttle which will transfer you to the base of the Dove Lake (which is located at a 200meter walk)

There are 2 walks both the ways to the DOVE Lake and I recommend you take both of them, the view of the lake are different from both the ends of the Lake.

Take a walk up to the Glacier Rock and don’t forget to snap an Instapic over there, its steep and slippery so be extra careful while climbing, just walk is just 15 mins each way.

The lookout points on both the sides are pretty short and don’t forget to take both of the walks.

The walk up to the summit of the CRadle Mountain will take 2-3 hours and if your thinking of any short walks then, there isn’t any.

The way to the base of the Dove Lake has a few interesting short bushwalking along the Rony Creek each of these walks will lead to an interesting lookout point. The best part if you are tired then catch the next Cradle Mountain shuttle and head back to the information centre.

The temperatures at the base of the Dove Lake and Cradle Moutain is freezing even in Autumn, so make sure to be well covered and it might rain too. Once you’re done with the Cradle Adventure, head back to the Cradle Mountain cafe, to grab a hot Coffe and food and the best part is they have wifi too!
