The TranzAlpine runs between the Garden City of Christchurch to Greymouth a city up on the West Coast of the South Island. Greymouth is known for its rich history, Gold mining and Dramatic river floods.

With reserved seating Coach, you can choose to take a day Excursion or a decision to hop off at Greymouth to explore the Franz Josef and Fox Glacier.

Arthur’s Pass is the highest point of the Journey, so make sure to hop off to capture images against the Stunning Southern Alps.  Do remember that the train only halts here for 5 mins

It’s all about the Journey rather than the Destination, yes I have to say this because this Train Journey takes you back in time through its LIVE commentary explaining you the end of the Glaciers era what made the Southern Alps Rise.

Travelling west crossing the Canterbury Plains, the train goes through the river valleys of the Waimakariri River.

The Alps to the alpine village of Arthurs Pass for a short break before descending through the Otira Tunnel to the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island, through lush alpine forests to Greymouth – a great base for visits to Punakaiki and the always popular glaciers at

Make sure of the viewing deck on the train that situated at the rear end, where you can capture the panoramic side of the Southern Alps & the Alpine forest

There’s still plenty of Snow on the mountain tops, so just after you have crossed Arthur’s Pass, make sure to keep your camera or Handycam ready to capture the magnified views of the Southern Island of New Zealand.

I personally loved their mini cafe at the middle of the Carriage & offers a luxurious seating to enjoy breakfast with a view!

Travel Tip: The round Journey costs appx 450 NZ$/person and is worth every penny!

I highly recommend adding this to your Kiwi Travel itinerary as not all train Journeys have such wonderful memories of Rugged Snow capped mountains, Gorgeous waterfalls, and lush Green Countryside view!
